A B O U T

Kevin Vélez is a composer, arranger, music director and educator. He received an M.F.A. from NYU’s Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program at Tisch School of the Arts. His original musicals include OLYMPUS (written with James D. Sasser), WHO WANTS TO BE ADOPTED? (written with Alana Jacoby), and THE LEGEND OF COFRESÍ. As a music director, he has helmed numerous musical theatre productions across the country from Maine to Hawaii. As an educator, he has taught piano, voice, Broadway history, composition, and music theory to students of all ages.

 

Kevin has been an Artist in Residence at the Goodspeed Opera House, and his original compositions have been showcased at various New York City venues including the New York Musical Theatre Festival, Laurie Beechman, Frederick Loewe Theatre, New York Theatre Barn, as well as the American Repertory Theatre in Boston, MA. Recent projects include arrangements and orchestrations for BOTTLE SHOCK: THE MUSICAL in San Francisco, and assisting Tony Award-winning composer, Stephen Flaherty with the Broadway production of ANASTASIA.
